The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 27th that Lee Jae-seong and Chun Jae-soo will face off in a primary for Busan mayor, and that Oh Jung-gi was single-nominated for Gyeongsangbuk-do governor.
Kim Yi-su, the Democratic Party of Korea nomination management committee chairperson, held a briefing at the party headquarters that day and said, "The nomination committee selected both of the two applicants in Busan as primary candidates," adding, "Former Busan party chair Lee Jae-seong and Chun Jae-soo, the only three-term Democratic Party lawmaker from Busan and a former Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, will take part." She also said, "We single-selected Oh Jung-gi as the candidate for Gyeongsangbuk-do governor."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party launched an additional call for candidates for Daegu mayor. Chairperson Kim said, "The central party nomination committee resolved to conduct an additional call for Daegu mayor candidates, which is scheduled to run from the 27th to the 31st of this month," adding, "We earnestly ask for a decision from a candidate who will open the future of Daegu."
On the same day, Jo Seung-rae, the Democratic Party of Korea secretary-general, met with reporters right after the briefing and said, "After screening, we judged it would be good for our party's candidates to go through a debate over Busan's future," adding, "We decided on a primary, also taking into account that the candidates requested it." Jo also said, "The interview for Daegu mayor candidates is scheduled for the 3rd of next month."
