Former Chairperson Lee Jin-sook of the Korea Communications Commission said on the 24th, "I respectfully, yet firmly, demand the cancellation of the party Nomination Management Committee's decision to exclude me from nomination (cutoff)."
On this day, former Chairperson Lee held a press conference at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and stated accordingly: "Starting in Daegu, citizens and party members who earnestly want the People Power Party to win the local elections, as well as the sincerity of Lee Jin-sook, must not be ignored." Earlier, on the 22nd, the Nomination Management Committee cut off former Chairperson Lee and lawmaker Joo Ho-young in the Daegu mayoral primary process.
Requesting a retrial by the Nomination Management Committee, former Commissioner Lee said, "In various opinion polls, Lee Jin-sook is supported as the overwhelming No. 1, and citizens are asking Lee Jin-sook to step up as the problem-solver for Daegu's crisis," and added, "Give me, Lee Jin-sook, the same freedom and opportunity to be chosen that Representative Jang Dong-hyeok received."
She went on to say, "I will not doubt the sincerity that seeks only the People Power Party's victory in Chairperson Lee Jung-hyun's decision," and added, "Chairperson, please do not doubt my sincerity to make the heart of conservatism, the heart of liberal democracy, Daegu, beat strongly again."
Regarding the "possibility of running as an independent," former Commissioner Lee said, "Some say even 1% is a possibility, but I think what I say now about that possibility or about a hypothetical does not carry much meaning."
When asked whether she would consider running if a sitting People Power Party lawmaker in Daegu is confirmed as the Daegu mayoral candidate and a by-election is held, she said, "I have never once thought of anything other than the Daegu mayoralty," but added, "If I receive a request from the party at that moment, at that time, I will consider it."
Regarding legal action, including an injunction to suspend the validity of the nomination exclusion, she said, "I first requested a retrial, and I will tell you the next steps once they are decided."
