At the meeting, with no People Power Party lawmakers present, Seo Young-kyo of the Democratic Party of Korea was elected chairperson. People Power Party lawmakers, who entered the chamber belatedly, protested the opposition's unilateral handling of the agenda and argued that the committee's name and purpose must be reset.
During the meeting, when the chairperson, Seo, asked, "Please take your seats," protests from People Power Party lawmakers grew louder. When Seo said, "Representative Na Kyung-won, please sit," Na responded, "Do not call my name carelessly." Seo countered, "Then what should I call you? Should I call you Neo Kyung-won? Representative Na Kyung-won, please sit. Where are you going now?"
People Power Party commissioners eventually walked out midway, then held a press conference, saying, "This is not a fabricated indictment, but a special committee to whitewash President Lee Jae-myung's crimes," and criticizing, "The Democratic Party is forcing through a parliamentary inquiry special committee to whitewash Lee Jae-myung's crimes."
The plan for this parliamentary inquiry is expected to be placed on the agenda at the National Assembly plenary session on the 21st. After a vote to end debate 24 hours after the debate begins on the 22nd, it is highly likely to be finally approved at the plenary session.
The investigation period was set at a total of 50 days from the day to May 8. The plan is to continue the investigation until 26 days before the local elections.
The scope of the investigation includes the prosecution's investigation and indictment processes regarding the alleged Daejang-dong development corruption case, the alleged Wirye new town development corruption case, the alleged bribery case involving former deputy head of the Institute for Democracy Kim Yong, the SSANGBANGWOOL remittances to North Korea case, and the alleged manipulation of real estate and other statistics.
