President Lee Jae-myung on the 20th ordered that all available resources, including equipment and personnel, be fully mobilized to handle the aftermath and rescue people in connection with the factory fire in Daedeok District, Daejeon. According to Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung of the presidential office, Lee issued the directive immediately after receiving a briefing from the relevant authorities that afternoon. He also said to ensure swift rescues while making every effort to prevent safety accidents among rescue personnel.
According to fire authorities, at about 1:17 p.m. a fire broke out at an auto parts manufacturing plant in Munpyeong-dong, Daedeok District, Daejeon, causing multiple casualties. At the time, about 200 workers were reportedly on the job. As of 3 p.m., 24 people were in serious condition and 29 had minor injuries. However, considering the possibility of missing people inside, the human toll could grow. About 70 pieces of equipment and roughly 240 firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze at the scene.
