The Korea Freedom Federation said in a news release on the 19th that it will change its founding philosophy from freedom and security to peace and push to revise its name. To that end, acting President Kim Sang-uk plans to meet in turn with the heads of the 17 provincial and metropolitan branches nationwide by the end of this month to explain the future direction of activities based on peace and the plan to change the name. Acting President Kim Sang-uk said the organization urgently needs change and that he plans to seek understanding from the provincial and metropolitan branches.
The Korea Freedom Federation is a private organization under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It has 17 provincial and metropolitan branches, 228 city, county and district chapters, and 3,308 town, township and neighborhood committees nationwide. Membership reaches 3.2 million.
The Korea Freedom Federation restored a clause prohibiting political involvement to its articles of association in Dec. last year. It revived a clause deleted in Mar. 2023. In connection with this, it plans to operate a Political Neutrality Management Center and an Audit Evaluation Committee. In addition, to transparently execute government subsidies, it plans to strengthen monitoring and internal whistleblowing systems.
