The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 19th that it will increase the size of rear motorcycle license plates and change the lettering color to black to improve legibility.
Currently, motorcycle license plates measure 210mm wide and 115mm tall. Under the license plate system to be implemented the next day, the plate height will increase to 150mm going forward. The width remains the same.
In addition, the administrative district name displayed at the top of the plate will be removed. The lettering color will change from blue to black. The move comes in response to criticism that the current small plates reduce legibility.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) said, "The new plates will apply to motorcycles that file new use reports after the 20th or are reissued due to damage," adding, "Existing plate holders can also switch to the new plates if they wish."
