People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok on the 17th responded to Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's expression of intent to apply for nomination by saying, "I hope we can hold a great primary and join forces to make sure we win the Seoul mayoral election."
Meeting with reporters after finishing the "Mom Comfort Special Committee on-site meeting" held in Mapo-gu, Seoul, that afternoon, Jang said, "I heard that Mayor Oh and Rep. Park Su-min will apply for nomination."
Regarding Mayor Oh's remarks to the effect that Jang "did not show a convincing will for change and failed to sever ties with far-right YouTubers," Jang said, "I will take it as various comments given for victory in the local elections."
He added, "Since the adoption of the (cutting ties) resolution, I have been making efforts in my own way for the party's change, but not everyone can be satisfied with the speed," and said, "While watching various situations, I will lead more change and innovation in the party so that we can win in the local elections."
On the launch of an innovation election committee demanded by Mayor Oh, he said, "In general elections, whether general or local, the election committee is launched around the time nominations are completed," and added, "We will complete nominations as quickly as possible and form a winning election committee so that the candidates can run together and lead us to victory in the local elections."
Asked about calls for Jang to step back to the second line after the launch of the election committee, he said, "There are aspects of forming the election committee that require a vote by the Supreme Council," and added, "We will gather various opinions and form an election committee that can fight the best."
Jang said, "If Rep. Park's freshness, Mayor Oh's rich administrative experience, and the various strengths of other candidates who have already applied are combined, we will be able to hold a good primary that can win the Seoul mayoral election."
