President Lee Jae-myung presented specially made Ghana chocolate to Ghana President John Dramani Mahama, who visited Korea.
Lee is scheduled to hold a summit with President Mahama on the afternoon of the 11th. Several agreement and memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremonies are also planned. Presidential Office Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said, "President Mahama is the first African leader Lee has received since taking office," adding, "The Ghanaian president's visit to Korea comes about two years after the 2024 Korea-Africa summit."
Ghana is Africa's largest gold producer and is considered a resource-rich country. Its cocoa production is also the world's second largest.
Lee provided specially made Ghana chocolate as a welcome kit at President Mahama's accommodation. The product used more than 80% Ghanaian cacao beans, and the chocolate cover featured the two countries' flags and the Ghanaian president's name.
Spokesperson Kang also noted, "During his time as opposition leader, President Lee Jae-myung once drew great strength from a 'Ghana chocolate' handed to him by a child while he was on a hunger strike to defend democracy."
