President Lee Jae-myung will hold a dinner meeting with first-term lawmakers of the Democratic Party of Korea. The meeting comes as discord among the party, the government, and the presidential office surfaces over prosecutorial reform.
The presidential office said on the 11th, "President Lee is scheduled to have a dinner next week with first-term lawmakers of the ruling party to discuss state affairs." Political circles said it is expected to take place over two days on the 15th and 16th.
Since taking office, this is the first time President Lee will hold a separate dinner meeting with first-term lawmakers.
Amid growing discord over prosecutorial reform among the party's hard-liners, the presidential office, and the Ministry of Justice, President Lee is effectively bringing first-term lawmakers together in one place. Many first-term Democratic Party lawmakers are aligned with Lee, and political circles expect it will create the appearance of rallying around the president.
