First lady Kim Hea-kyung visited her alma mater, Sookmyung Women's University, to mark International Women's Day. Kim emphasized sustained investment to secure women's leadership and the expansion of fair opportunities.

Kim said, "It is very meaningful to be able to discuss the future of women with women leaders from around the world at Sookmyung Women's University, which has a deep history and tradition," and noted, "At the same time, it makes me reflect once again on what efforts our society must make to achieve gender equality."
She continued, "Sustained investment in women's education and leadership, and the expansion of fair opportunities for the next generation, are more important than ever," and added, "Through our discussions, many more women will gain courage and possibility."
Kim also emphasized, "We will do our best together so that the Republic of Korea can move forward as a truly substantive gender-equal nation," adding, "Women's solidarity and participation are the powerful forces that sustain society and create a better tomorrow."
She added, "Even at this moment, there are women and children suffering amid war and violence," and said, "I earnestly pray that their tears will stop as soon as possible and that the day will come when they can smile again in a peaceful daily life."
