Shin Dong-wook of the People Power Party said he would not run in the Seoul mayoral primary.
Shin said in a Facebook post on the 8th, "I have decided not to take part in the primary for Seoul mayor."
Shin said, "Over that time, I listened to many people's views and, taking a comprehensive look at my political path, the situation the party faces, and circumstances in my district, I spent no short amount of time in deliberation and reflection," adding, "But I reached the conclusion that, rather than pressing ahead now, it is right to pause and find a way to devote myself to the party."
Shin said, "This local election is a crucial contest on which the fate of the Republic of Korea depends," adding, "The party leadership, candidates, and all party members and supporters must unite as one to stop the runaway course of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party."
Shin said, "Even if our views differ a little, I sincerely hope we truly become one now and move in a single direction," adding, "For my part, I promise I will not refuse any role on that path to victory."
