Jung Chung-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea said on the 6th that the collapse of the integration of South Chungcheong–Daejeon and Daegu–North Gyeongsang is 200% the responsibility of the People Power Party.
At an on-site Supreme Council meeting held this morning in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla, Jung said, "The administrative integration of the two regions did not materialize because the People Power Party fell into internal strife and kept flip-flopping on support and opposition," and stated accordingly.
He went on, "We also wanted to deal squarely with the issue of administrative integration between South Chungcheong–Daejeon and Daegu–North Gyeongsang, but the People Power Party opposed the South Chungcheong–Daejeon integration that it had first advocated for and even pursued administrative procedures for," adding, "With South Jeolla–Gwangju (where the administrative integration law passed), the Democratic Party will see it through so the region can firmly establish itself as the capital of energy transition."
Han Byung-do, the floor leader from the same party, also said, "The special act on integrating South Jeolla and Gwangju was approved and promulgated at the Cabinet meeting yesterday (the 5th). It was realized through the bold decision of the Lee Jae-myung administration," adding, "South Jeolla–Gwangju, the sacred ground of Korea's democracy, will now be reborn as the heart of balanced national development and Korea's great leap forward."
He added, "We will ensure there are no setbacks in fostering advanced future industries for the integrated special city of South Jeolla–Gwangju, including the establishment of a national AI computing center," and said, "The Democratic Party will do its utmost for a stable launch and sustained development of the integrated special city of South Jeolla–Gwangju."
