Yang Hyang-ja, a supreme council member of the People Power Party, on the 5th aimed at the Democratic Party of Korea and said, "Now is the time to abandon baseless optimism and, under the most pessimistic outlook, draw up countermeasures to the maximum."
Yang said at the supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly that afternoon, "The Democratic Party politicians I have seen who come from activist circles lack expertise in the economy and industry, so even though there is much they do not know, they act as if they know too much and fail to make coolheaded judgments," and stated accordingly.
Yang said, "Our economy is taking a direct hit from the Middle East crisis. Yesterday, the KOSPI plunged 12%, surpassing the drop during the 9/11 attacks, falling 18% over two days, and the won-dollar exchange rate exceeded the 1,500 level for the first time since the financial crisis," adding, "The KOSPI had overheated due to excessive stock-boosting messages from the president and the ruling party, while the exchange rate has effectively been left unattended on the grounds that it is beyond the government's capacity."
She went on, "A war that we cannot control has broken out, yet the government's leadership and expertise to overcome it are nowhere to be seen," adding, "The president is trying to manage the situation on social media by saying, 'Do not be overly anxious'; the prime minister, who lacks expertise, only browbeats the economic and financial authorities; and the ruling party leader is busy every day attacking the judiciary and the chief justice."
Yang said, "The ruling bloc, which offers only baseless rosy economic forecasts, is turning away from a foreseeable crisis with the 'bravery born of ignorance,'" adding, "What is needed now is an all-out government response based on harsh reality. On the premise of a protracted Middle East crisis, we must assume every risk at the maximum and respond thoroughly."
