People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin, who won a court decision to suspend the effect of her disciplinary action, said on the 5th that "the leadership of Jang Dong-hyeok, which broke the party's democratic procedures, should even now reflect and run the party normally to win the local elections."
That afternoon, Bae held a news conference at the National Assembly and said, "The court made a wise judgment. The People Power Party must now stop the regression and move toward the future," and stated accordingly.
Bae said, "I thank the court for seriously considering my appeal to protect the democratic system of a public party," and added, "The People Power Party must now stop any further regression and move toward the future."
Bae went on, "I will turn back the clock of the People Power Party Seoul chapter, which has been halted for nearly a month," and said, "Although the path has already turned into a tough one, I will return to my post and quietly do my utmost so that we can recover in a healthy way."
On the previous month, the People Power Party's Ethics Committee handed down a one-year suspension of party membership to Bae on the grounds that she violated children's rights while engaging in an exchange of barbs with an internet user. During the back-and-forth with the user, Bae posted online, without masking, a photo of the user's underage child, which was deemed inappropriate.
In response, the Civil Agreement Division 51 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Senior Presiding Judge Kwon Sung-su) granted Bae's request for an injunction to suspend the effect of the disciplinary action against the People Power Party.
Lawmakers aligned with the pro-Han camp, including former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, also welcomed the court's decision in unison. The former leader said, "As a rule, the judiciary does not get involved in party affairs," and added, "An obviously abnormal, by no means ordinary, handful of the 'Yoon again' faction is ruining the traditional conservative party and conservatism."
Park Jeong-hoon, a lawmaker aligned with the pro-Han camp, also wrote on Facebook, "Common sense prevailed," and added, "I welcome Bae Hyun-jin's return as chair of the Seoul chapter."
