The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 4th that it had single-nominated Rep. Park Chan-dae as its candidate for Incheon mayor.
Kim I-su, chairperson of the Democratic Party nomination management committee, held a briefing that day and said Park was single-selected as the candidate for Incheon mayor. Kim said, "Park Chan-dae, an Incheon native, joined as a rank-and-file member in 2009 and grew into a solid pillar of the Democratic Party," adding, "He also challenged the Yeonsu District, once considered tough ground for the Democratic Party, and wrote his name as the first Democratic Party National Assembly member there."
Kim said, "At the end of 2024, as floor leader, under a martial-law political situation, he took the lead in the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol, the head of a rebellion," adding, "The nomination management committee concluded that Park Chan-dae, who has dedicated himself to the party, is fully qualified."
Park Chan-dae said, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as the Democratic Party's second nomination and the first candidate in the greater Seoul area," adding, "I believe it is a stern order to raise winds of victory starting in Incheon and to drive wins in the capital region and across the country."
Park added, "As the first stepping-stone to recreating the Lee Jae-myung administration, we will start in Incheon and spread nationwide."
Jung Chung-rae, who attended the briefing, said, "Incheon is the barometer of public sentiment and the key to victory," adding, "I hope Park Chan-dae becomes the driving force behind victory in the local elections."
