The parties are trading blame over administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang. The People Power Party urged, "The Democratic Party of Korea should immediately convene the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and a plenary session to pass the special law," while the Democratic Party of Korea argued, "The People Power Party, which showed a zigzag course, should apologize."
Song Eon-seog, the People Power Party floor leader, said at a floor countermeasures meeting at the National Assembly on the 3rd, "For the future of 5 million residents of Daegu and North Gyeongsang, the People Power Party even gave up a filibuster, a lawful means of resistance that a minority party can exercise, to immediately convene the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the plenary session so the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration special law can be handled within this session," adding, "The Democratic Party of Korea should immediately convene the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the plenary session to handle the special law."
Song said, "At this very moment, only one thing is needed for the integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang: the will of the ruling Democratic Party, and only one thing is making the integration difficult: the will of the majority Democratic Party," adding, "Democratic Party floor leader Han Byung-do and Legislation and Judiciary Committee Chair Choo Mi-ae have shown no will whatsoever to handle the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration law up to this hour."
Democratic Party floor leader Han Byung-do, at a floor countermeasures meeting the same day, shifted responsibility for the failure of the Daegu–North Gyeongsang administrative integration to the People Power Party. Han said, "It was outrageous enough to start a filibuster that was nothing but obstruction without justification, then they suddenly demanded passage of the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration special law and spun a far-fetched sophistry as if the Democratic Party opposed it," adding, "It was none other than the People Power Party that wavered on integration and blocked placing it on the plenary agenda."
He went on, "Administrative integration is a national centennial plan to overcome regional extinction and achieve region-led growth," stressing, "If we miss this Critical opportunity now, we make it clear that all responsibility lies with the People Power Party."
The People Power Party also announced a press conference in the afternoon at the National Assembly urging passage of the Daegu–North Gyeongsang administrative integration law. People Power Party lawmakers and local government heads from the Daegu–North Gyeongsang region are all expected to attend.
