People Power Party floor leader Song Eon-seog said on the 1st that the party would fully halt its filibuster (a lawful obstruction of proceedings through unlimited debate) in the National Assembly plenary session. He then urged the Democratic Party of Korea to pass the special act on administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang.
At a press briefing at the National Assembly that day, the floor leader said, "To break the impasse created by the Democratic Party of Korea's refusal to convene The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee to handle the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration bill, today the People Power Party has decided, effective immediately, to halt the filibuster."
He added, "We know the claim that (the Democratic Party of Korea) cannot open the Legislation and Judiciary Committee because of the filibuster has no basis, but we decided to stop the filibuster and give time to convene the committee to handle the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration bill."
He urged, "The Democratic Party of Korea should stop making flimsy excuses and immediately convene the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to approve the Daegu–North Gyeongsang integration bill."
