The People Power Party on the 28th said that after President Lee Jae-myung put his Bundang apartment on the market and the Democratic Party of Korea asked Jang Dong-hyeok to sell his dwellings, "one unit that is not actually being used was already put on the market a long time ago."
Park Sung-hoon, senior Spokesperson of the People Power Party, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the morning of the same day and said, "We are proceeding with a transaction through a real estate agency, but a deal has not been reached yet." Park added, "Of the six units Representative Jang owns, the five that are actually being used are realistically difficult to sell."
The dwellings Jang holds are six units: one apartment in Guro-gu, Seoul, where he actually lives; an apartment in Boryeong, South Chungcheong, his constituency; one dwelling in Boryeong where his mother lives; a one-fifth equity in an apartment in Jinju, South Gyeongsang, where his mother-in-law lives; a one-tenth equity in an apartment in Anyang, Gyeonggi, inherited from his father-in-law; and an officetel in Yeouido.
Park went on to say, "The People Power Party views the real estate market not as a political tool but from the perspective of stabilizing housing for ordinary people and normalizing the market," adding, "If selling dwellings does not provide any positive effect on market stabilization, it is nothing more than a politically motivated event."
Earlier, the Democratic Party of Korea urged Jang that day to sell his dwellings. Kim Ji-ho, Spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "President Lee Jae-myung is demonstrating through action his resolve to normalize real estate prices, even putting his own home up for sale," adding, "It is a decision to correct the distorted structure of the real estate market."
Kim said, "If so, what is the People Power Party doing?" and added, "Is it not fiercely opposing government policy while repeating a vested-interest logic that seeks to maintain a market structure centered on high-priced dwellings even now?" Kim continued, "Does the People Power Party only feel satisfied when home prices rise and speculation succeeds?" and added, "In particular, a question to Representative Jang Dong-hyeok: When will you fulfill your promise that if the president sells his house, you will also dispose of your own?"
