The Democratic Party of Korea, keeping pace with President Lee Jae-myung's moves, urged People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok to dispose of his owned dwellings as well. This is seen as targeting Jang's earlier remark to the effect that "if the president sells his dwellings, I will sell mine too."
According to political circles on the 27th, Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae wrote on his social media (SNS) the same day, "Since the president says he will sell his house, it shows the resolve that real estate speculation should not even be dreamed of," adding, "Now it is Jang Dong-hyeok's turn to answer. I expect courage."
This is interpreted as directly taking aim at Jang's recent comment in Jeju to the effect that "if the president sells, I will sell too." On the 6th, Jang referenced the president in response to a citizen's request that "everything should be sold off except for one house."
Kim Hyun-jung, the Democratic Party's floor spokesperson, said in a commentary, "Leader Jang, who holds six multiple dwellings, said he 'gets a jolt just seeing the number 6,'" stressing, "As pledged, all he has to do now is call a real estate office and put the house on the market."
Kim went on, "This is a measure in which the president's determination for normalizing the real estate market is revealed more clearly than any words," adding, "The president chose a 'frontal breakthrough' before a promise to the people, and the last-ditch stand Jang set up has become a single-log bridge with no retreat."
