The People Power Party criticized the joint investigation headquarters of prosecutors and police for attempting to search and seize its headquarters, saying the regime's watchdogs, the special counsel and the prosecution, are trying to stab the heart of the opposition.
On the 27th, according to political circles, Song Eon-seog, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at a press briefing held at the National Assembly, "Following the special counsel, now the prosecution's joint investigation headquarters says it will seize the People Power Party's membership list," adding, "Opposition suppression, opposition annihilation—this is dictatorship."
Earlier, the joint investigation headquarters, currently investigating the "Shincheonji party membership allegations," attempted a search and seizure of the People Power Party's central headquarters from about 9 a.m. that day. Shincheonji is suspected of having collectively enrolled its believers in the People Power Party from before the 2022 presidential election through the 2024 general election.
Chief spokesperson Park Seong-hun said at about 8 p.m. at the central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, "The joint investigation headquarters tried to conduct a search and seizure at the People Power Party's headquarters, but after a standoff until now, they withdrew," adding, "As far as I know, they did not take any specific items."
Park went on, "There was no discussion of voluntary submission," and said, "It is not appropriate to go into detail, and what I can say is that we provided no materials or cooperation whatsoever to the joint investigation headquarters." He added, "The joint investigation headquarters withdrew with nothing to show for it."
After news of the attempted search and seizure emerged, Park also issued a commentary criticizing it, saying, "It is a fact known to all that the search and seizure is a reckless ploy to water down the forced passage of the 'three laws destroying the judiciary' by the Democratic Party and to sway public opinion."
