In the disclosure of assets for senior public officials whose status changed over the past two months, Lee Han-joo, chair of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, ranked first among incumbents. Lee's assets totaled 7.5 billion won.
The Government Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 27th announced the asset disclosure results for 120 senior public officials. The disclosure covered senior public officials whose status changed from Nov. 2 to Dec. 1 last year.
Lee held building asset worth 5,518.54 million won alone. The holdings included a pre-sale right for Samik Apartment in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu (2,314 million won), as well as an apartment in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, a commercial unit in Danwon-gu, Ansan, and a commercial unit in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
In addition, Lee owned land in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province worth 503.16 million won, deposits of 1.66 billion won, and bonds of 600 million won. Virtual assets included two ICON and 0.00001453 Ethereum, and in the spouse's name were gold items (16.76 million won) and 20 million won in antiques and artworks such as portraits and old books.
Ranking second among incumbents was Choi Young-chan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Government Legislation, with a total of 5,471.16 million won. Real estate accounted for a large share, including a building in Daechi-dong, Seoul, an apartment in Banpo-dong, and an officetel in Sejong. Deposits held by Choi and family were about 830 million won, and securities were in the 770 million won range. The spouse also held Government Bonds worth about 1.95 billion won.
Third was Hyeon Su-yeop, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, with a total of 4.2 billion won. Building asset of 1.5 billion won, including an apartment in Sejong and a multi-family house in Bangbae-dong, Seoul, was reported along with deposits of 1.3 billion won and securities of 600 million won.
Among retirees, Noh Do-young, former president of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), had the most with 17,083.86 million won. Next were Kim Dong-seop, former president of the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), with 9,773.31 million won, and Kim Gi-hwan, former chair of the Korea Foundation, with 6,715.28 million won, respectively.
