The Democratic Party of Korea's Seoul chapter filed a complaint accusing Oh Se-hoon, the Seoul mayor, of violating the Public Official Election Act.
On the 27th, the Democratic Party of Korea's Seoul chapter issued a written briefing in the name of Spokesperson Lee In-ae, saying, "Mayor Oh is now even casting aside the political neutrality that a public official must observe," and added, "We have filed a complaint against Mayor Oh on suspicion of violating the Public Official Election Act."
The Spokesperson went on, "Public officials must not use their position to influence elections," and argued, "Mayor Oh actively leveraged the authority and name recognition of an incumbent mayor to lay political groundwork toward a fifth term in advance and to tilt the electoral landscape in his favor."
According to the Spokesperson, on the 22nd at a book concert for his book "Designing the pride of Seoul citizens," Mayor Oh said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration's attempt to seize the three branches of government is truly relentless." Regarding the June 3 local elections, he said, "I feel a sense of mission that this must be an election of checks and balances."
The Spokesperson also pointed to Mayor Oh's remark on a radio current affairs program that "I am a commander who must go to war," noting that it "went beyond a simple expression of opinion and urged the direction of voter choice in the upcoming local elections."
Mayor Oh's side immediately pushed back, saying, "You cannot call answers to questions from an event host and media interviewers electioneering."
They added, "What do you call it when the president blatantly intervenes in the election, such as praising Chong Won-o, the district mayor, on social media (SNS) to elevate him as a candidate, and introducing former Minister Chun Jae-soo of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries also on SNS while mentioning, 'The HMM transfer will happen soon'?"
