The Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association said on the 26th that former Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Vice Minister Kim Kyung-seon was elected as the 16th president.
Kim earned a bachelor's degree in English language and literature from Seoul National University, a master's in public policy from Seoul National University, a master's from the Indiana University School of Law in the United States, and a doctorate in law from Seoul National University.
Kim entered public service by passing the 35th higher civil service exam and worked at the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) for 30 years, becoming the first woman to serve as Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination. Kim later served as Vice Minister at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Kim is credited with laying the groundwork for today's work-family balance system by first introducing policies such as paternity leave, reduced working hours during child-rearing, and family care leave.
The president's term is three years, and the inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held on Apr. 6 at the association's main auditorium.
