The People Power Party leadership decided to postpone the long-discussed party name revision until after the June 3 local elections. Two new names were proposed, but the party said it intends to change the name along with the platform after further discussion.
Choi Bo-yun, senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the 22nd after a closed Supreme Council meeting and said, "Two proposals for a new party name were reported, but revising the party name is carried out together with the platform and basic policies, so we decided to discuss it more in depth until the local elections," adding, "Accordingly, we decided to finalize the party name revision after the local elections."
The People Power Party Supreme Council received reports on "Republican Party Opening the Future" and "Future Solidarity" as new party names. However, it was said that there was not enough time before the local elections to establish the party's symbolic color and logo.
Choi said, "The party name needs to be discussed alongside revisions to the party constitution and party rules, and there were time considerations regarding the various procedures involved in changing the party name ahead of an election," adding, "This does not mean the two reported new names are negative."
Choi added, "A report is scheduled to be made at the general meeting of lawmakers, including matters related to the party constitution, party rules, party name, and basic policies," and said, "The People Power Party continues to consider a future agenda."
