Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will pay a state visit to Korea on the 22nd at the invitation of President Lee Jae-myung. The summit between the two leaders is scheduled for the morning of the 23rd.
President Lula will visit Korea for three days and two nights starting that day. As the first foreign leader to be received since President Lee returned to the Blue House in December last year, President Lula will make a state visit for the first time in 21 years since his first term in 2005.
At the summit between the two leaders, they will discuss ways to cooperate in a range of fields, including trade, climate, energy, space, the defense industry, and science and technology. In particular, President Lee, during a meeting with President Lula at the Group of Seven (G7) summit held in Canada last year, noted that both began their careers as boy factory workers.
The first ladies of the two countries met before the leaders. First lady Kim Hea-kyung visited Gwangjang Market with Brazilian first lady Rosângela da Silva on the 21st to spend time together. They later visited the National Folk Museum in Paju, Gyeonggi.
