People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said he would reconsider attending a luncheon meeting scheduled on the 12th with President Lee Jae-myung and Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae.
At the supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Jang said, "Citizens I met on site yesterday asked me to make sure to tell the president that it has become too hard to make a living these days, so I agreed to the meeting with the thought that I should convey those voices," adding, "However, since several supreme council members asked me to reconsider, I will discuss it again with the leadership after the meeting and make a final decision."
Jang referred to the retrial petition system that passed the Legislation and Judiciary Committee the previous day and said, "An event that completely destroys Korea's judicial system has occurred." He went on, "More than 80 ruling party lawmakers raised their hands, saying they would even launch a signature campaign to cancel the president's indictment, and in the Public Administration and Security Committee, the special act on administrative integration was unilaterally passed."
Jang said, "After proposing a luncheon meeting yesterday, overnight they nonchalantly let bills that destroy Korea's judicial system pass," adding, "They will try to cover everything with a photo of the ruling and opposition leaders and the president shaking hands, while the sound of Korea's judicial system collapsing echoes."
After the supreme council meeting, People Power Party senior spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon met with reporters and said, "The party leader considered the difficult livelihood situation, but supreme council members conveyed concerns in a prior meeting today," adding, "Leader Jang is discussing these aspects, and nothing has been decided yet."
