Highway tolls will be waived during the Lunar New Year holiday.
President Lee Jae-myung on the 10th chaired a Cabinet meeting and reviewed and approved a plan to waive highway tolls during the Lunar New Year holiday. Accordingly, highway tolls nationwide will be waived from the 15th to the 18th.
At the meeting, 40 promulgation bills, including partial amendments to the Employment Insurance Act and the Act on Gender Equality in Employment, and 38 presidential decrees were reviewed and approved together.
In particular, a promulgation bill allowing workers to take 1 to 2 weeks of parental leave even during kindergarten and elementary school closure and vacation periods passed the Cabinet. Under the revision, workers with children age 8 or younger or in second grade or below in elementary school will be able to take short-term parental leave of 1 to 2 weeks once a year.
Because the law takes effect six months after promulgation, short-term parental leave is expected to be available around August this year.
The government will also lower the tariff on bananas, mangoes and pineapples to 5% through June to stabilize prices of imported fruit. The mandatory employment rate for regular workers that employers are required to hire for people with disabilities will be gradually raised from the current 3.1% to 3.5% by 2029.
