Chong Won-o, head of Seoul's Seongdong District, on the 8th made official a run for Seoul mayor.
On this day at 2 p.m., at a book concert in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, Chong said regarding a Seoul mayoral bid that he had "finished getting ready." When Park Kyung-mi, Democratic Party of Korea Spokesperson and the event's host, asked, "Are you making your Seoul mayoral run official?" Chong said, "Yes, I intend to run for Seoul mayor."
Asked that day what kind of Seoul he wants, Chong said, "I want to create a Seoul where taxes don't feel wasted." He added, "What citizens want is for the administration to support their lives and daily routines in ways that are convenient and safe; it seems citizens want that kind of Seoul."
Chong has been listed among the Democratic Party of Korea's potential candidates for Seoul mayor. This is the first time he has made it official. Chong is said to be stepping down as district chief after the Lunar New Year holiday. Under the Public Official Election Act, a public official seeking to run in a local election must resign 90 days before election day. The deadline is on the 5th of next month.
Meanwhile, in the Democratic Party of Korea, lawmakers Park Hong-geun, Seo Young-kyo, Park Ju-min, Jeon Hyun-hee and Kim Young-bae have declared bids in the Seoul mayoral primary.
