People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok has decided to put on hold an agenda item to replace some local party chapter heads. Political circles had anticipated that Jang, based on the results of an internal party audit, would replace a significant number of out-of-Assembly district heads, including those in the pro-Han Dong-hoon camp. With this deferral, some interpret that Jang has given an opportunity to the district heads who had been up for replacement.
People Power Party Secretary-General Chung Hee-yong met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting on the 5th and said, "Jang judged that replacing district heads ahead of the local elections could make it very difficult to run elections in those areas, and instead of replacing all 37 who were recommended for replacement, he asked them to contribute to the elections."
Earlier, the People Power Party's Party Affairs Audit Committee conducted a regular audit from early December last year through the end of last month. The audit covered 212 of the 254 district party chapters nationwide. The committee had recommended to the Supreme Council that a total of 37 district heads (17.5%) who received below a certain score be replaced.
The People Power Party decided to revisit whether to replace district heads again after the local elections if there are shortcomings in chapter reorganization or contributions to the campaign.
Alongside an organizational review, the People Power Party also moved to shore up personnel and policy. After appointing two-term capital region lawmaker Cho Jung-hoon as head of the talent recruitment committee, it staffed all committee members with those in their 30s and 40s, including lawmakers Cho Ji-yeon and Park Chung-kwon. The People Power Party also kicked off policy development by holding the first meeting of its pledge development headquarters.
