President Lee Jae-myung and first lady Kim Hea-kyung paid their respects on the 27th at the funeral parlor of former Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan, who died. The president arrived at the funeral parlor set up at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at about 6:05 p.m., laid flowers, and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
According to the presidential office, the president plans to posthumously award the Order of Civil Merit, Mugunghwa Medal, to the former prime minister. The Order of Civil Merit is conferred on individuals with clear merits in politics, the economy, society, education, and academia who have contributed to improving the people's welfare and advancing the nation. Among them, the first grade is the Mugunghwa Medal.
Earlier, the former prime minister's body arrived at Incheon Airport at about 6:53 a.m. and was moved straight to Seoul National University Hospital. Official condolences began at 12:30 p.m. Currently, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae, and former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum are receiving mourners alongside the bereaved family while serving as chief mourners.
