All lawmakers of the People Power Party agreed on the 21st to recommend that party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, who is on the seventh day of a hunger strike, call it off.
Chief spokesperson Gwak Gyu-taek met with reporters at the National Assembly in the afternoon after a general meeting of lawmakers and said, "We agreed to strongly recommend that the party leader stop the hunger strike, and I understand that lawmakers are going to the protest site to deliver that intention," and stated accordingly.
Gwak said, "Because the party leader's health is rapidly deteriorating, all party lawmakers expressed grave concern," and added, "As for the specific way to continue the fight to demand acceptance of the twin special counsel bill at the party level, we decided to deliberate and discuss it further."
Gwak continued, "Even if we strongly recommend stopping the hunger strike due to the party leader's health problems, many voiced that the intent must continue, so there was much talk about concrete methods," and explained, "Various methods were mentioned, such as a joint hunger strike, a relay hunger strike, a tent sit-in, and a relay protest in front of the Blue House, and we concluded to think a bit more about which method to take."
