President Lee Jae-myung again reviewed the transfer of HMM, a leading shipping corporations, to Busan.
At a Cabinet meeting held at the Blue House on the 20th, while receiving a report from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, President Lee asked, "When did HMM say it would move?" Vice Minister Kim Seong-beom replied, "Labor-management consultations are underway, but there is still some resistance from the union."
Lee then asked again, "Have the executives still not made a management decision?" and the Vice Minister answered, "The board of directors and the general shareholders' meeting are in March and April."
Lee said, "It seems Minister Chun Jae-soo worked hard, and two large private shipping companies both decided to move," adding, "I pulled the list of the remaining shipping companies. Is there any that could be persuaded to move to Busan?"
In response, the Vice Minister said, "Anyway, since the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) is going to (Busan), public institutions are going, and large corporations are going, we are proposing to the shipping industry that we create a kind of cluster," adding, "We are reviewing ways to make deals tied to pending issues in the shipping industry."
Then Lee said, "Even if it stays in the greater Seoul area…"
