The Democratic Party of Korea will hold a confirmation hearing for Minister nominee Lee Hye-hoon of the Ministry of Planning and Budget on the 19th or 20th. It plans to convene an extraordinary session for January starting on the 12th, the day after the new floor leader is elected.
Baek Seung-a, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, met with reporters after a policy coordination meeting at the National Assembly on the 8th and said, "We are reviewing holding the confirmation hearing on the 19th or 20th."
She added, "We plan to submit a request to convene the January extraordinary session on Thursday the 8th, and the session will begin on Monday the 12th," noting, "The ruling and opposition parties have agreed to hold a plenary session on the 15th."
The Democratic Party will hold a vote to elect a new floor leader on the 11th. Baek, the floor spokesperson, said, "We postponed the plenary session in consideration of the schedule for electing the floor leader," adding, "After holding a debate among floor leader candidates today (the 8th), we will convene a general assembly of lawmakers at 3:30 p.m. on the 11th to elect the floor leader."
The handling of the second comprehensive special counsel bill and the Unification Church special counsel bill will be overseen by the new floor leadership. Baek, the floor spokesperson, said, "They were referred to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 7th and sent to the agenda coordination subcommittee. The agenda coordination panel is scheduled to meet on the 12th," adding, "As our floor leader post is vacant, it is difficult to offer specifics on ruling-opposition discussions over the special counsel."
