The Democratic Party of Korea moved to handle the Unification Church special counsel bill and the second comprehensive special counsel bill.
The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee held a full meeting on the 7th and, led by the Democratic Party, referred the Unification Church special counsel bill and the second comprehensive special counsel bill to the agenda coordination committee. The agenda coordination committee was formed with Democratic Party Commissioners Park Gee-won, Kim Yong-min, and Kim Ki-pyo; People Power Party lawmakers Kwak Gyu-taek and Joo Jin-woo; and one member from the non-negotiating Rebuilding Korea Party, Commissioner Park Eun-jung. Committee Chair Choo Mi-ae then declared a recess, saying, "We will recess to appoint coordinating members and to conduct the agenda coordination committee's review."
The agenda coordination committee is a body set up when there are differences over a contentious bill. Although it is designed to review contentious bills, if 4 out of its 6 members agree, a bill can pass immediately. Because the broader pro-government bloc, including the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party, holds four seats, passage of the bills is expected.
Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party said, "The agenda coordination committee exists to ensure sufficient debate when adequate discussion has not taken place and the majority party tries to push something through unilaterally, but the Democratic Party is saying it will ram the special counsel bills through today," adding, "While cooking up a 'rebellion beef soup,' I am appalled at how they are wrecking Korea's legislature like this."
