The Democratic Party of Korea set a plan to open a plenary session on the 8th, the last day of the December extraordinary session, to handle the second comprehensive special counsel and the Unification Church special counsel bill.
Kim Hyeon-jeong, the Democratic Party spokesperson for the floor, met with reporters on the morning of the 6th after the floor leadership meeting and said, "The Legislation and Judiciary Committee will open a full meeting at 2 p.m. tomorrow (the 7th) to discuss the second comprehensive special counsel and the Unification Church special counsel bill," adding, "We are working to open a plenary session on the 8th so they can be handled."
Kim said, "It is true that we are consulting with the opposition for a plenary session on the 8th, and it is also true that we requested the National Assembly speaker to open a plenary session on the 8th," adding, "The People Power Party's stance is negative and the speaker is also asking for an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, so there is an aspect that a plenary session on the 8th is uncertain, but from the party's standpoint, we are doing our best to open one on the 8th."
If the plenary session on the 8th falls through, there is a possibility of immediately opening an extraordinary session in January. However, a new floor leadership to be formed on the 11th is expected to decide on this. The Democratic Party is set to hold a by-election for floor leader on the 11th.
Kim said, "Once a new floor leader is elected, the floor leadership will deliberate and is likely to push to open an extraordinary session in January," adding, "We said we would handle five items before the Lunar New Year holiday—the second comprehensive special counsel, the Unification Church special counsel, the Court Organization Act, the law distortion crime, and the constitutional complaint for trials—so even if a plenary session is not held on the 8th, we will do our best to keep the schedule."
Moon Jin-seok, the Democratic Party acting floor leader, said at a floor countermMeasures meeting that day, "We will push the Unification Church–Shincheonji special counsel swiftly and decisively," adding, "It is only natural to include Shincheonji in the special counsel's investigation targets. We will also hurry the second comprehensive special counsel to bring the insurrection to a complete end."
