On the 6th, Kim Hea-kyung visited the Beijing Korean International School in Beijing, China, and said, "Please join forces so that the students can grow into talents who play on the global stage based on their identity as Koreans."
On the morning of the third day of President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to China, Kim held a meeting at the Beijing Korean International School with students who are Korean nationals living abroad, their parents, and faculty. Founded in 1998, the school aims to cultivate global talent with the goal of "fostering identity and pride as Koreans."
At the meeting, there was discussion about overall school operations and diplomatic circumstances, including "an increase in student numbers due to improved Korea-China relations." Principal Ko Hyun-seok said, "There is an aspect in which Korea-China relations affect student numbers," and added, "We hope the efforts by President Lee Jae-myung and Kim Hea-kyung to improve Korea-China relations will lead to a positive trend, including an increase in student numbers."
In response, Kim said, "As a mother of two, I understand better than anyone the importance of education for a bright future for children," and added, "I hope you will join forces so that the children can grow into talents who play on the global stage based on their identity as Koreans."
After watching a demonstration by the school's taekwondo exhibition team, Kim said, "I thought a K-pop group had come," and added, "Interest in Korean culture is growing around the world. I am very proud and pleased to see taekwondo, our national sport, being widely promoted in Beijing." She then observed a New Year's card-making class in an elementary classroom.
The day was one day before the high school students' graduation, and Kim delivered "congratulatory graduation chicken," saying, "Your dreams and passion will be the light that brightens the future of both Korea and China," according to the presidential office.
