President Lee Jae-myung, on a state visit to China, released a selfie taken with first lady Kim Hea-kyung and Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife. The photo was taken directly with a Xiaomi 15 Ultra that Xi gave as a gift in November last year.
On the 5th, the president posted a photo on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showing him taking a selfie with Xi. In the photo, the president is holding the Xiaomi 15 Ultra himself and taking a picture with Xi, the first lady Kim, and Peng Liyuan.
In a post titled "The image quality is for real, right?", the president said, "One selfie with President Xi and his wife with the Xiaomi I received as a gift in Gyeongju. Thanks to it, I got a once-in-a-lifetime shot."
He added, "The closer we meet, the more Korea-China relations untangle," and said, "We will communicate more often and cooperate more from now on."
Earlier, on Nov. 1 last year, during a Korea-China summit held on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, Xi presented the president with a Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is a Chinese smartphone equipped with Samsung Display components.
At the time, as the president examined the smartphone and asked, "Is the communications security solid?", Xi replied with a laugh, "Check whether there is a backdoor," drawing attention.
