On the 5th, the Democratic Party of Korea floor leader by-election was set as a four-way race.
The party's election management committee said that by 6 p.m. that day, as a result of receiving registrations for the floor leader by-election, four lawmakers—Han Byung-do, Jin Sung-joon, Park Jeong, and Baek Hye-ryeon (all three-term, in ballot order)—completed registration.
Inside and outside the party, the view is that, unlike the supreme council by-election held the same day, this race does not show a clear factional contest. All candidates are three-term lawmakers with faint factional colors, so a heavy tilt toward any one candidate is not widely expected.
This election was triggered by former floor leader Kim Byung-kee's resignation amid various misconduct allegations. The new floor leader's remaining term is about four months, until May.
The results will be announced on the 11th by combining an online vote of dues-paying members (10–11) and a vote by lawmakers (11). The dues-paying members' vote will count for 20%, and the lawmakers' vote will count for 80%.
