Chairperson Ju Biung-ghi of the Korea Fair Trade Commission said that, depending on the outcome of the investigation into the Coupang incident, a suspension of business operations is possible.
The Chairperson appeared at the "second joint hearing on the Coupang incident," held for the second day at the National Assembly on the 31st, and said, "We are currently conducting a joint public-private investigation," and added, "We will determine what information was leaked, what damage is expected, and whether Coupang can take appropriate measures to restore damages, and if necessary, we can impose a suspension of business operations."
He went on to note, "We will comprehensively consider consumer harm and the losses of suppliers." At the hearing, sanction options such as suspending only weekday deliveries or restricting the recruitment of new members for Coupang were also proposed.
The Chairperson also noted that the Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) is looking into multiple cases related to Coupang. He emphasized, "We have several cases related to Coupang at the FTC, and we hope Coupang will voluntarily act in a spirit of mutual growth going forward."
