Jung Chung-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea said on the 30th that he will convene an emergency Supreme Council meeting following the abrupt resignation of floor leader Kim Byung-kee. The party plans to discuss procedures to elect a successor floor leader.
Meeting with reporters at the National Assembly that day, Jung said, "We convened an emergency Supreme Council meeting at 1 p.m.," and added, "We will minimize the vacancy in the floor leadership and move to elect a floor leader as quickly as possible."
Earlier, Kim apologized over various allegations surrounding him and expressed his intention to step down as floor leader.
Regarding Kim, Jung said, "Watching the resignation press conference, I thought he must have had a very hard time," and added, "I hope things are handled well and that he gets through this."
