Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, who serves as the special presidential envoy for strategic economic cooperation, visited Poland to support defense industry cooperation. This is the third time Kang has departed as a special envoy.
The Presidential Spokesperson's Office said in a media notice on the 29th that "Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik visited Poland for a three-day, one-night schedule to attend a contract signing ceremony and is scheduled to return on the afternoon of the 30th," adding, "Specific outcomes related to this trip will be announced later."
Hanwha Aerospace on this day signed a "phase 3 implementation contract" with the Polish Armaments Agency at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw to supply the 80-kilometer-class Cheonmu guided missile (CGR-080). The contract is valued at 5.6 trillion won.
Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik; First Deputy Director Kim Hyun-jong of the Office of National Security; Lee Yong-chul, commissioner of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration; and Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and defense minister, Kosiniak-Kamysz, attended the event along with key officials from both countries. Artur Kuptel, head of the Polish Armaments Agency; Piotr Wojciech, chairman of WB Group; and Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, signed the contract.
Earlier, Kang departed twice as a special presidential envoy to carry out missions related to defense industry cooperation. Kang visited Poland, Romania, and Norway on Oct. In Nov., ahead of the president's Middle East and Africa trip, Kang visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia first.
