On the 29th, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kang Sun-woo explained on a social media (SNS) account, "I make it clear that I never promised a nomination in exchange for money or received any money."
Earlier, an audio file was released in which Rep. Kang, who served as a nomination management committee member for the Seoul chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea during the 8th nationwide local elections three years ago, mentioned signs of receiving money during a call with Floor Leader Kim Byung-kee, who was the committee's secretary at the time.
Kang said, "When I became aware of the matter during the 2022 local elections, I immediately reported it to the committee secretary," adding, "I reported it again the next morning and instructed that it be returned immediately."
Kang said, "The conversation with Floor Leader Kim, who was the committee secretary at the time, was part of the process of appealing my frustration after I learned about the matter and was shocked and flustered," adding, "The content in question was recorded in full without my knowledge."
Kang said, "When discussing a constituency related to a specific committee member, the principle was that the member would be excluded from the discussion," adding, "I, too, strictly adhered to that principle while carrying out committee duties."
Kang went on, "When discussing the qualifications of the candidate for Seoul Gangseo Gap at the time, my speaking rights were restricted under that principle," adding, "Through the full committee's review, all constituencies were decided as single-candidate nominations."
