President Lee Jae-myung will commute to Cheong Wa Dae for the first time on the 29th. It has been 3 years and 7 months since former President Yoon Suk-yeol moved the presidential office to Yongsan in May 2022. The government will drop the name "presidential office" and use "Cheong Wa Dae" again.
According to political circles on the 28th, President Lee will head to Cheong Wa Dae on the 29th. The phoenix flag, symbolizing Korea's head of state, will be taken down at the Yongsan presidential office at 12 a.m. that day and raised at Cheong Wa Dae. The phoenix flag is flown at all times where the president's main office is located.
The presidential office appears to have completed the relocation of the president's office within the year to break from the "Yongsan presidential office," which went through the Dec. 3 martial law and impeachment. Accordingly, it decided to revert the term "presidential office" back to "Cheong Wa Dae."
President Lee plans to work in the office in Yeomin Hall among the offices installed in the main building of Cheong Wa Dae and Yeomin Hall. The offices of the three key chiefs—the chief of staff, the policy chief, and the national security chief—are also in Yeomin Hall. This is interpreted to mean an intention to implement policy efficiently by communicating closely at a short distance with aides.
There is also a possibility that President Lee will move the office once more during the term. President Lee pledged to build a Sejong office targeting 2030.
