The People Power Party on the 28th expelled former lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon, who was nominated as Minister of the Planning and Budget Office in the Lee Jae-myung administration. It also passed an agenda item canceling all party affairs carried out in an official party capacity.
The People Power Party held a supreme council meeting at the National Assembly that afternoon and approved the expulsion of the nominee and the cancellation of party affairs. The nominee had been the People Power Party's district party committee chair for Jung·Seongdong B.
The People Power Party said, "As a district party committee chair, the former lawmaker volunteered to collude with the current administration by agreeing to the appointment of a Cabinet member in the Lee Jae-myung government," adding, "With just six months left until the local elections, this is the worst-ever act of harming the party, betraying the people and party members."
It continued, "While not disclosing the fact of being tapped as a Cabinet member, the former lawmaker continued party affairs such as conducting evaluations of elected officials, disrupting party order with behavior that anyone capable of normal judgment could never undertake and deliberately obstructing the operation of party affairs," adding, "The collusion between President Lee Jae-myung and the former lawmaker is behavior that destroys party democracy and can never be condoned."
The People Power Party also said, "We strongly condemn President Lee and the former lawmaker for degrading the Cabinet post in charge of the national treasury into an object of political transaction," adding, "We urge a public apology and responsible measures before the people as quickly as possible."
