The government decided to expand the interagency task force (TF) on Coupang's personal data leak, replacing the Head of Team at the second vice minister level with a group chaired by the vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 25th, the government held a meeting of relevant ministries that day to draw up measures for the personal data leak crisis at platform corporations including Coupang and made this decision.
At the meeting, participants shared the progress and plans related to Coupang's personal data leak and consumer protection. They also discussed measures to prevent secondary harm.
Separately from the investigation into the personal data leak crisis at platform corporations, the government also decided to prepare fundamental institutional reforms to prevent further data leaks and consumer harm.
Coupang announced the results of its internal investigation into the personal data leak that day. The gist was that former employee A accessed information on 33 million customers, but actually saved only about 3,000 items and there was no secondary leak.
The government expressed regret, saying Coupang unilaterally announced a matter under investigation. The Ministry of Science and ICT said, "What Coupang claims requires verification by the joint public-private investigation team." The police, who have been conducting the related probe, also said they are analyzing evidence submitted by Coupang.
