U.S. President Donald Trump gave President Lee Jae-myung a "White House golden key." The White House golden key is said to be a return gift for the Grand Order of Mugunghwa and a model of the Silla gold crown that President Trump received when he visited Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju in Oct.
Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik said on the 24th on Facebook that "(President Trump) sent to our president the last remaining one of the five White House golden keys produced."
The White House golden key is said to have been designed by President Trump himself. Along with the presidential seal, it bears the phrase "KEY TO THE WHITE HOUSE," meaning "you can visit the White House at any time." So far, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Japanese Prime Minister Aso Taro, Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk, and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo have received it.
Kang said, "On the 16th, during a conversation between President Trump and our ambassador to the United States, President Trump conveyed special regards to President Lee," adding, "Saying he likes President Lee very much, he also noted that the best cooperative relationship has been formed between the two leaders."
He continued, "We hope this golden key gift of special meaning will become a symbol of the steadfast Korea-U.S. relationship," emphasizing, "We will continue to shape the future of the steadfast Korea-U.S. alliance."
