The number of People Power Party members who have paid party dues is expected to soon reach 1 million. The People Power Party interpreted the increase in dues-paying members as "the will of the people asking to protect Korea's democracy against the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party of Korea."
Chung Hee-yong, the People Power Party's secretary-general, said at a floor countermeasures meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 16th, "As of the 10th, members who paid party dues increased by 212,201 from the party convention date (on Aug. 26) to exceed 963,000."
He added, "Responsible members who have paid party dues for three months or more increased by 53,995 compared with the party convention date," and noted, "We suspect next year's local elections may have contributed to the increase in membership, but it is hard to conclude it is solely the effect of the local race."
The secretary-general said, "(The increase in membership) means a call to set Korea straight in the face of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party," adding, "Since the launch of the Jang Dong-hyeok leadership, we have emphasized courtesy toward party members, and as the party faces difficulties, the shared resolve to unite has strengthened cohesion."
He continued, "We have continued to work to secure broad party strength, and as these currents have converged, membership has been rising," adding, "The People Power Party will, together with its members, become a more dynamic and vibrant party, win the upcoming local race, and fulfill its responsibility for people's livelihoods."
