A recall order was issued for 53 products, including electric mats and heat packs that exceeded maximum temperature limits and elementary school learning kits in which hazardous substances were detected.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Dec. 11 that it ordered recalls for 53 products after conducting safety inspections on 1,119 products across 54 items expected to see increased demand in winter.

The 53 recalled products include 34 children's products, 12 electrical appliances, and 7 household goods.

Electrical goods included batteries (3) with fire risks when overcharged, plugs and outlets (3) that exceeded maximum temperature limits, electric mats (2), and electric seat cushions (2). Household goods included heat packs (2) and eye massagers (1) that exceeded allowable temperature limits.

For children's products, violations included 18 textile products for children, 9 toys, and 3 leather products for children that exceeded hazardous substance limits. Three of 20 elementary student practice and craft kits also exceeded hazardous substance limits.

The agency disclosed related information on the Product Safety Information Center and Consumer 24 to prevent these products from circulating in the market, and registered them in the "Hazardous Product Sales Blocking System," which is linked to more than 260,000 retail stores nationwide and online shopping malls.

Korea Agency for Technology and Standards Administrator Kim Dae-ja said, "To block the market circulation of hazardous products, we will draw up an annual plan next year and push forward with systematic safety inspections."
