Ahead of the 9th party congress early next year, Kim Jong-un has moved to build up his record of achievements. It touted that flagship construction projects such as the "50,000 households supplied in Pyongyang" have entered the final stage.
Korean Central News Agency said on the 8th that "construction of 10,000 household dwellings in phase 4 of the Hwasong district is being pushed forward in the finishing stage," adding that the "Pyongyang 50,000-household dwellings construction command" is speeding up the finishing work.
Earlier, at the 8th congress of the Labor Party in Jan. 2021, it announced a plan to solve "the housing problem of citizens in the capital," saying it would build a total of 50,000 dwellings in Pyongyang over the next five years by adding 10,000 units each year.
In 2022 in the Songsin and Songhwa districts, and in 2023, 2024, and the first half of 2025, it completed 10,000 units each in phases 1, 2, and 3 of Hwasong district, a new city in northeastern Pyongyang.
Korean Central News Agency added that "the Pyongyang People's Committee brigade is setting measures to ensure internal temperatures according to climate conditions, strengthening skilled worker capacity, and plastering wallpaper and installing doors."
Analysts say North Korea aims to highlight fulfillment of the plan presented at the 8th congress before the 9th congress to craft visible accomplishments for Kim Jong-un.
In fact, Rodong Sinmun on the day carried an article titled "To present a flawless creation to the party congress—as seen at the Sinuiju greenhouse complex farm construction site."
Rodong Sinmun said, "Before long, the Sinuiju greenhouse complex farm will be splendidly completed."
In addition, reports on the modernization and completion of various local factories—such as the Hamhung Koryo medicine factory, the Pyongyang Dandelion paper factory, the Hamhung wheat processing plant, and the Kyongsong tile factory—are being carried daily by North Korean media.
