Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon criticized special counsel Min Joong-ki's team investigating Kim Keon-hee as "fit for arrest," saying it failed to investigate even after securing testimony that the Unification Church delivered money and valuables to a Democratic Party of Korea politician.
On the 6th, the former leader wrote on Facebook that "the 'Min Joong-ki special counsel, a subcontractor for the Democratic Party, who neatly excluded the Democratic Party from the Unification Church money-for-lobbying scandal' is precisely the worst target for the unconstitutional crime of legal distortion that the Democratic Party is gleefully pushing."
He went on, "This is a case where it is clear under the Democratic Party's bill that the relevant statutes should have been applied, yet they were not applied or were distorted in application," adding, "Of course, even without the unconstitutional crime of legal distortion, under current law this is grounds for immediate arrest for dereliction of duty and abuse of authority."
The former leader also said, "The Democratic Party claims the large sums of money and watches it received from the Unification Church were legal, not illegal. If they are going to spout that nonsense, the Democratic Party should come clean and say, 'We have been continuously taking money from the Unification Church,'" adding, "If you join the Democratic Party going forward, does that mean you can pocket tens of millions of won in cash and luxury watches?"
He continued, "The shocking real names of those who received the Unification Church's money and watches are all known," and said, "They say they are Moon Jae-in people, so a power struggle within the Democratic Party is expected, but regardless of that, if you're caught, you have to go."
Before it began a full-fledged investigation into the alleged collusion between the Unification Church and the People Power Party, special counsel Kim Keon-hee's team is said to have secured testimony in an interview with former Unification Church world headquarters chief Yoon Young-ho in Aug. that the Unification Church delivered money and valuables worth tens of millions of won to current and former Democratic Party lawmakers.
